A
successful 'Lane'
Fresno
Bee
January 9, 2006
As
everyone puts the holidays behind them, a small team of
electricians will spend the next two months removing the
wiring and lights from the trees along Van Ness Boulevard
in Fresno. The 83rd Annual Christmas Tree Lane tradition
has come and gone, and what a wonderful success it was.
Special
thanks to the families of historic Old Fig Garden, the
merchants of Fig Garden Village and volunteers from the
Fresno State women's softball team, the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers Local 100, the Assistance League
of Fresno and countless others for making our walk nights
possible.
The
nonprofit project -- which lasted 25 days and attracted
more than 100,000 visitors in December -- succeeded without
incident. The efforts of Fresno City Council Member Henry
T. Perea, the Fresno County Sheriff's Department and the
California Highway Patrol did not go unnoticed.
Notes
of appreciation continue to arrive at oldfig.org from families
living in all parts of California who came home to enjoy
the family tradition. We thank everyone for the success
of the 83rd year. We look forward to the 84th year of Christmas
Tree Lane in 2006.

Leone Stine,
Christmas Tree Lane Committee co-chair
